Saturn
Saturn
Saturn is the second largest planet in the solar system (Jupiter is the largest). The ringed planet was first seen in 1610, when Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei spotted it through a telescope. Saturn's bright rings are made up of ice and rock particles that range in size from grains of sand to the size of houses.

This stunning view of the planet was taken by the Cassini spacecraft in 2004. The picture consists of 126 images acquired in a tile-like fashion, covering one end of Saturn's rings to the other and the entire planet in between. Cassini traveled nearly seven years before it reached the planet. The spacecraft is studying Saturn, its rings and its many moons.
